Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody recognizes procathepsin L (gene CTSL) in human and mouse samples and is validated for Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 37.6 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 37 kDa.
Cathepsin L (CTSL) is a lysosomal cysteine protease that drives general protein turnover. It also has specialized roles: processing antigens and the invariant chain for MHC class II presentation in the thymus, generating neuropeptides from their precursors, and degrading elastin and other matrix components. Cathepsin L also helps some viruses enter cells, so it is studied broadly.

Validated Applications
| Western blot | 0.25–0.5 µg/mL (Human, Mouse) |
|---|
Samples with a confirmed band (WB): human HepG2 cells, human hcct tissue, human hccp tissue, mouse liver tissue.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide from the middle region of human cathepsin L/MEP/CTSL. Sequence identity with the rat ortholog: 61.1%.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human and mouse. UniProt describes procathepsin L as secreted and also located in the lysosome and apical cell membrane. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
