Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-CD168/HMMR Picoband® Antibody catalog # A05056-1.
Biological background
Biological context: Receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA). Involved in cell motility. When hyaluronan binds to HMMR, the phosphorylation of a number of proteins, including PTK2/FAK1 occurs. May also be involved in cellular transformation and metastasis formation, and in regulating extracellular-regulated kinase (ERK) activity. May act as a regulator of adipogenisis.
Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Cell surface. Cytoplasm., tissue context: May be up-regulated in bone metastatic breast cancer cells..
Common research applications
- Western blotting (WB): Compare HMMR levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of HMMR in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
- Immunofluorescence / ICC: Assess subcellular localization patterns and co-localization with compartment markers in cultured cells.
- Flow cytometry: Quantify HMMR-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
- ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
- Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.
Additional product notes (from provided fields)
- Specificity: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Background: Hyaluronan-mediated motility receptor (HMMR), also known as RHAMM (Receptor for Hyaluronan Mediated Motility) is a protein which in humans is encoded by the HMMR gene. It is mapped to 5q34. The protein encoded by this gene is involved in cell motility. It is expressed in breast tissue and together with other proteins, it forms a complex with BRCA1 and BRCA2, thus is potentially associated with higher risk of breast cancer. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been noted for this gene.
- Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Cellular localization: Cell surface. Cytoplasm.
- Tissue details: May be up-regulated in bone metastatic breast cancer cells.
