Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of Cd46 (Membrane cofactor protein) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-CD46 Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9848. Tested in WB applications. This antibody reacts with Mouse. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminus of mouse CD46, different from the related human sequence by twelve amino acids, and from the related rat sequence by nine amino acids.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 41 kDa, 70 kDa; calculated MW: 40881 MW
  • Reactivity: Mouse
  • Applications: WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Membrane cofactor protein; Membrane cofactor protein. CD46 complement regulatory protein,?also known as?CD46 (cluster of differentiation?46) and?Membrane Cofactor Protein,?is a?protein?which in humans is encoded by the?CD46 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a type I membrane protein and is a regulatory part of the complement system. And the encoded protein has cofactor activity for inactivation of complement components C3b and C4b by serum factor I, which protects the host cell from damage by complement. In addition, the encoded protein can act as a receptor for the Edmonston strain of measles virus, human herpesvirus-6, and type IV pili of pathogenic Neisseria. Finally, the protein encoded by this gene may be involved in the fusion of the spermatozoa with the oocyte during fertilization. Mutations at this locus have been associated with susceptibility to hemolytic uremic syndrome. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.? Functional note: May be involved in the fusion of the spermatozoa with the oocyte during fertilization. . Reported localization: Isoform 1: Cytoplasmic vesicle, secretory vesicle, acrosome inner membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Inner acrosomal membrane of spermatozoa. Expression/tissue context: Present only in testis (at protein level). .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Cell Type Markers: Researchers commonly examine how Cd46 (Membrane cofactor protein) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Complement: Researchers commonly examine how Cd46 (Membrane cofactor protein) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Immunology: Researchers commonly examine how Cd46 (Membrane cofactor protein) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative Cd46 (Membrane cofactor protein) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
