Key elements and design rationale
- Target: CD48 (CD48 antigen); UniProt: P09326
- Antibody format: Rabbit, Polyclonal, Rabbit IgG
- Molecular weight: 43 kDa, calculated 27683 MW
- Applications: WB, IHC, Flow Cytometry, ELISA
Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-CD48 Antibody Picoband® catalog # A03281-3.
Biological background
Biological context: Ligand for CD2. Might facilitate interaction between activated lymphocytes. Probably involved in regulating T-cell activation.
Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Cell membrane ; Lipid-anchor, GPI-anchor ..
Common research applications
- Western blotting (WB): Compare CD48 levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of CD48 in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
- Flow cytometry: Quantify CD48-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
- ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
- Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.
Additional product notes (from provided fields)
- Background: CD48 antigen (Cluster of Differentiation 48), also known as B-lymphocyte activation marker (BLAST-1) or signaling lymphocytic activation molecule 2 (SLAMF2), is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CD48 gene. This gene encodes a member of the CD2 subfamily of immunoglobulin-like receptors which includes SLAM (signaling lymphocyte activation molecules) proteins. The encoded protein is found on the surface of lymphocytes and other immune cells, dendritic cells and endothelial cells, and participates in activation and differentiation pathways in these cells. The encoded protein does not have a transmembrane domain, however, but is held at the cell surface by a GPI anchor via a C-terminal domain which maybe cleaved to yield a soluble form of the receptor. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
- Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Cellular localization: Cell membrane ; Lipid-anchor, GPI-anchor .
- Research category: Cell Type Markers,Immunology
