Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-CD5 Antibody Picoband® (monoclonal, 11B4) catalog # M00480-4.

Biological background

Biological context: May act as a receptor in regulating T-cell proliferation.

Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein, tissue context: Brain, liver, placenta, lymphocytes and erythrocytes..

Common research applications

  • Western blotting (WB): Compare Cd5 levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of Cd5 in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
  • Flow cytometry: Quantify Cd5-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
  • ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
  • Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.

Additional product notes (from provided fields)

  • Background: CD5 is a member of the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) superfamily. Members of this family are secreted or membrane-anchored proteins mainly found in cells associated with the immune system. In humans, the gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 11. This protein is a type-I transmembrane glycoprotein found on the surface of thymocytes, T lymphocytes and a subset of B lymphocytes. The encoded protein contains three SRCR domains and may act as a receptor to regulate T-cell proliferation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
  • Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cellular localization: Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein
  • Tissue details: Brain, liver, placenta, lymphocytes and erythrocytes.
  • Research category: Cell Adhesion,Cell Type Markers,Cytoskeleton/ECM,Hematopoietic Progenitors,Immunology,Integrins,Myeloid,Signal Transduction,Stem Cells
