    Key elements and design rationale

    • Target: Cd63 (myosin binding protein C, cardiac); UniProt: P41731
    • Antibody format: Rabbit, Polyclonal, Rabbit IgG
    • Molecular weight: 160 kDa
    • Applications: WB, IHC, Flow Cytometry, ELISA

Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-Cd63 Antibody Picoband® catalog # A01080-1.

    Biological background

Biological context: Thick filament-associated protein located in the crossbridge region of vertebrate striated muscle a bands. In vitro it binds MHC, F-actin and native thin filaments, and modifies the activity of actin-activated myosin ATPase. It may modulate muscle contraction or may play a more structural role.

Expression and localization notes: tissue context: Red blood cells..

    Common research applications

    • Western blotting (WB): Compare Cd63 levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
    • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of Cd63 in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
    • Flow cytometry: Quantify Cd63-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
    • ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.

    Notes for experimental interpretation

    • Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
    • Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.

Additional product notes (from provided fields)

    • Background: CD63 antigen is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CD63 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. Most of these members are cell-surface proteins that are characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains. It is mapped to 12q13.2. CD63 is mainly associated with membranes of intracellular vesicles, although cell surface expression may be induced. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth and motility. This encoded protein is a cell surface glycoprotein that is known to complex with integrins. It may function as a blood platelet activation marker. Deficiency of this protein is associated with Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome. Also this gene has been associated with tumor progression.
    • Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
    • Tissue details: Red blood cells.
    • Research category: Cardiovascular,Contractility,Hypertrophy
