Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody detects cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme, mitochondrial (gene CYP11A1) in human, mouse and rat samples and is validated for Western blot and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 60.1 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 50 kDa.
CYP11A1 (P450scc) is the mitochondrial cytochrome P450 that cleaves the side chain of cholesterol to form pregnenolone, the first and rate-limiting step in making all steroid hormones. It is expressed mainly in the adrenal cortex, gonads and placenta, and is studied in steroidogenesis, adrenal and gonadal biology and endocrine disorders.

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): human placenta tissue, rat ovary tissue, mouse ovary tissue.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.

Recombinant human CYP11A1 fragment (His72–Gln461), expressed in E. coli.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse and rat. UniProt places cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme, mitochondrial in the mitochondrion inner membrane. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
