Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-CYP27A1 Antibody Picoband® catalog # A02121-2.

Biological background

Biological context: Beta-adrenergic receptors mediate the catecholamine-induced activation of adenylate cyclase through the action of G proteins. Beta-3 is involved in the regulation of lipolysis and thermogenesis.

Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Mitochondrion inner membrane ; Peripheral membrane protein ; Matrix side, tissue context: Expressed mainly in adipose tissues..

Common research applications

  • Western blotting (WB): Compare CYP27A1 levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of CYP27A1 in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
  • Immunofluorescence / ICC: Assess subcellular localization patterns and co-localization with compartment markers in cultured cells.
  • Flow cytometry: Quantify CYP27A1-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
  • ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
  • Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.

Additional product notes (from provided fields)

  • Background: CYP27A1 is a gene encoding a cytochrome P450 oxidase, and is commonly known as sterol 27-hydroxylase. It is mapped to 2q35. This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This mitochondrial protein oxidizes cholesterol intermediates as part of the bile synthesis pathway. Since the conversion of cholesterol to bile acids is the major route for removing cholesterol from the body, this protein is important for overall cholesterol homeostasis. Mutations in this gene cause cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis, a rare autosomal recessive lipid storage disease.
  • Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cellular localization: Mitochondrion inner membrane ; Peripheral membrane protein ; Matrix side
  • Tissue details: Expressed mainly in adipose tissues.
  • Research category: Cardiovascular,G Protein Signaling,Signal Transduction,Signaling Pathway
