Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody recognizes cytochrome c, somatic (gene Cycs) in human, mouse and rat samples and is validated for IHC and Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 11.6 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 14 kDa.
Cytochrome c (CYCS) is a small heme protein in the mitochondrial intermembrane space that shuttles electrons from complex III to complex IV in the respiratory chain. When the outer mitochondrial membrane is permeabilized during apoptosis, it is released into the cytosol, binds APAF1 and triggers the apoptosome and caspase-9 activation, so it is a classic marker of intrinsic apoptosis.

Validated Applications
| IHC (paraffin sections) | 0.5–1 µg/mL (Mouse, Rat) |
|---|---|
| Western blot | 0.1–0.5 µg/mL (Human, Mouse, Rat) |
Samples with a confirmed band (WB): human HL-60 cells, human K562 cells, human U-937 cells, human U2OS cells, human T-47D cells, human PC-3 cells, human Caco-2 cells, rat brain tissue, rat heart tissue, rat kidney tissue, rat C6 cells, mouse brain tissue, mouse heart tissue, mouse kidney tissue, mouse Neuro-2a cells.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Samples with confirmed staining (IHC): mouse brain tissue, mouse intestine tissue, rat brain tissue, rat intestine tissue.
Recommended antigen retrieval: heat-mediated, in TE buffer (pH 9.0); citrate buffer (pH 6.0) can be used instead.
Conditions in the example images (IHC): heat-mediated antigen retrieval in EDTA buffer (pH 8.0).
Immunogen
Recombinant mouse Cytochrome C fragment (Gly2–Glu105), expressed in E. coli. Sequence identity with the human and rat orthologs: 91.3% and 100%, respectively.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse and rat. UniProt places cytochrome c, somatic in the mitochondrion intermembrane space. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (mouse): Found in embryos and in adult liver and heart. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
