Product Overview

This rabbit polyclonal antibody recognizes cytoglobin (gene CYGB) in human, mouse and rat samples and is validated for Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 21.4 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 21 kDa.

Cytoglobin (CYGB) is a vertebrate globin with a hexacoordinated heme, expressed mainly in fibroblast-like cells such as hepatic stellate cells and in some neurons. It is thought to consume nitric oxide and protect cells from oxidative stress, which could influence vascular tone. Its physiological roles are still being defined, and it is studied in liver fibrosis and hypoxia biology.

Validated Applications

Western blot 0.1–0.5 µg/mL (Human, Rat, Mouse)

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): rat brain tissue, rat small intestine tissue, rat liver tissue, rat kidney tissue, SGC cells, COLO320 cells, SMMC cells, PANC cells, HeLa cells.

Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide from the N-terminal region of human cytoglobin. The peptide sequence is conserved in rat. It differs from the mouse sequence at one residue.

Reactivity Notes

The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse and rat. UniProt places cytoglobin in the cytoplasm and nucleus. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Widely expressed. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.

Safety

Handling: the formulation contains sodium azide and thimerosal (a mercury compound) as preservatives. Wear gloves, avoid contact with skin and eyes, and dispose of waste according to local regulations. For research use only; not for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Q.Which applications is this antibody validated for, and at what dilution?
A.Validated applications with suggested starting dilutions: Western blot 0.1–0.5 µg/mL (Human, Rat, Mouse). Optimal dilutions should be determined by each laboratory.
Q.Which species does this antibody react with?
A.Validated reactivity: Human, Mouse, Rat. Other species are not listed by the supplier.
Q.What band size should be expected in Western blot?
A.Reported by the supplier: calculated molecular weight 21.4 kDa; observed band at about 21 kDa.
Q.What immunogen was used to raise this antibody?
A.Synthetic peptide from the N-terminal region of human cytoglobin. The peptide sequence is conserved in rat.
Q.How should this antibody be stored?
A.As supplied: −20 °C for up to 12 months from receipt. After reconstitution: 4 °C for up to 1 month, or aliquot and keep at −20 °C for up to 6 months. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
