Key elements and design rationale

  • Target: KRT18 (Keratin, type I cytoskeletal 18).
  • Antibody format: Monoclonal; clone HB-11; isotype Rabbit IgG.
  • Host: Rabbit.
  • Species reactivity: Human (confirm in your model system with appropriate controls).

This description is intended to help interpret the antibody design and the biological context of the target using the fields provided in the catalog record, alongside general experimental considerations.

Biological background

KRT18 (protein: Glycogen synthase kinase-3 beta (gsk3b)) is a commonly studied target in molecular and cellular biology. Functional context (as provided): Involved in the uptake of thrombin-antithrombin complexes by hepatic cells (By similarity). When phosphorylated, plays a role in filament reorganization. Involved in the delivery of mutated CFTR to the plasma membrane. Together with KRT8, is involved in interleukin-6 (IL-6)-mediated barrier protection. . Reported cellular localization context: Cytoplasm, perinuclear region. Nucleus, nucleolus. Tissue expression notes (as provided): Expressed in colon, placenta, liver and very weakly in exocervix. Increased expression observed in lymph nodes of breast carcinoma. .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Research context keywords from the source record include: Cell Type Markers,Class I,Cytoskeleton,Cytoskeleton/ECM,ECM Proteins,Extracellular Matrix,Intermediate Filaments,Microtubules,Signal Transduction,Structures,Tumor Associated.
  • Current studies often focus on connecting target abundance/localization to pathway perturbations across models, tissues, and cell states.
  • Quantitative and multiplexed assays (e.g., imaging + immunoblot panels) are commonly used to compare phenotypes across conditions and time-courses.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting (WB): assess relative target abundance across samples, treatments, or time-points.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): evaluate spatial distribution of target-positive staining in tissue architecture.
  • Immunofluorescence/ICC (IF/ICC): visualize subcellular localization patterns and cell-to-cell heterogeneity.
  • Flow cytometry: quantify target-positive populations and compare shifts in marker distributions.

Workflow ideas (metafield): Validate KRT18 antibody specificity using KO/KD control samples (WB/IF/IHC as appropriate), Detect KRT18 expression by Western blot in cell or tissue lysates, Detect KRT18 in FFPE tissue sections by immunohistochemistry, Localize KRT18 by immunofluorescence/immunocytochemistry in cultured cells, Quantify KRT18-positive cells by flow cytometry in single-cell suspensions

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Consider isoforms and post-translational modifications (PTMs) that may shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
  • Apparent molecular weight may vary by sample type and processing (observed MW: 80 kDa; calculated MW: 48058 MW).
  • Control concepts: include appropriate negative controls (e.g., isotype, KO/KD samples) and orthogonal validation when feasible.

Additional product details (from the source record)

  • Molecular weight (observed): 80 kDa
  • Cellular localization (provided): Cytoplasm, perinuclear region. Nucleus, nucleolus.
  • Tissue details (provided): Expressed in colon, placenta, liver and very weakly in exocervix. Increased expression observed in lymph nodes of breast carcinoma. .

I was wanting to use your anti-Cytokeratin 18 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody for IF for human cervix carcinoma on frozen tissues, but I want to know if it has been validated for this particular application. Has this antibody been validated and is this antibody a good choice for human cervix carcinoma identification?
It shows on the product datasheet, M01357-1 anti-Cytokeratin 18 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody has been validated for IF, WB on human tissues. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in human cervix carcinoma in IHC-frozen, you can get your next antibody for free.
My question regarding product M01357-1, anti-Cytokeratin 18 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody. I was wondering if it would be possible to conjugate this antibody with biotin. I would need it to be without BSA or sodium azide. I am planning on using a buffer exchange of sodium azide with PBS only. Would there be problems for me to conjugate the antibody and store it in -20 degrees in small aliquots?
It is not recommended storing this antibody with PBS buffer only in -20 degrees. If you want to store it in -20 degrees it is best to add some cryoprotectant like glycerol. If you want carrier free M01357-1 anti-Cytokeratin 18 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody, we can provide it to you in a special formula with trehalose and/or glycerol. These molecules will not interfere with conjugation chemistry and provide a good level of protection for the antibody from degradation. Please be sure to specify this in your purchase order.
