Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of Egf (Pro-epidermal growth factor) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-EGF Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9862. Tested in ELISA, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Mouse. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived mouse EGF recombinant protein (Position: N977-R1029). Mouse EGF shares 69.8% and 77.4% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with human and rat EGF. (reported region: N977-R1029).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 134 kDa; calculated MW: 133072 MW
  • Reactivity: Mouse
  • Applications: ELISA, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Pro-epidermal growth factor; Pro-epidermal growth factor. EGF is known as epidermal growth factor. This gene encodes a member of the epidermal growth factor superfamily. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the 53-amino acid epidermal growth factor peptide. This protein acts a potent mitogenic factor that plays an important role in the growth, proliferation and differentiation of numerous cell types. Additionally, it acts by binding with high affinity to the cell surface receptor, epidermal growth factor receptor. Defects in this gene are the cause of hypomagnesemia type 4. Dysregulation of this gene has been associated with the growth and progression of certain cancers. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, at least one of which encodes a preproprotein that is proteolytically processed. Functional note: EGF stimulates the growth of various epidermal and epithelial tissues in vivo and in vitro and of some fibroblasts in cell culture. Magnesiotropic hormone that stimulates magnesium reabsorption in the renal distal convoluted tubule via engagement of EGFR and activation of the magnesium channel TRPM6 (By similarity). . Reported localization: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Expression/tissue context: Expressed in kidney, salivary gland, cerebrum and prostate. .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Cancer: Researchers commonly examine how Egf (Pro-epidermal growth factor) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cell Cycle: Researchers commonly examine how Egf (Pro-epidermal growth factor) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cell Differentiation: Researchers commonly examine how Egf (Pro-epidermal growth factor) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative Egf (Pro-epidermal growth factor) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • ELISA-compatible use: when applicable, interpret signal as relative abundance across sample sets with consistent handling and dilution strategy.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.

We have tried in the past anti-EGF antibody for ELISA on kidney in the past. I am using mouse, and We intend to use the antibody for WB next. I am looking for examining kidney as well as colon in our next experiment. Could you please give me some suggestion on which antibody would work the best for WB?
I viewed the website and datasheets of our anti-EGF antibody and it seems that PB9862 has been validated on mouse in both ELISA and WB. Thus PB9862 should work for your application. Our Boster satisfaction guarantee will cover this product for WB in mouse even if the specific tissue type has not been validated. We do have a comprehensive range of products for WB detection and you can check out our website bosterbio.com to find out more information about them.
I see that the anti-EGF antibody PB9862 works with WB, what is the protocol used to produce the result images on the product page?
You can find protocols for WB on the "support/technical resources" section of our navigation menu. If you have any further questions, please send an email to support@bosterbio.com
