    Key elements and design rationale

    • Target: EPCAM — Epithelial cell adhesion molecule
    • Antibody format: Host: Rabbit; Clonality: Monoclonal; Clone: Clone: GBG-5; Isotype: Rabbit IgG
    • Species reactivity: Human
    • Molecular weight guidance: Observed: 50 kDa; Calculated: 34932 MW

    Biological background

Protein function (datasheet): May act as a physical homophilic interaction molecule between intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) at the mucosal epithelium for providing immunological barrier as a first line of defense against mucosal infection. Plays a role in embryonic stem cells proliferation and differentiation. Up-regulates the expression of FABP5, MYC and cyclins A and E. .

Cellular localization (datasheet): Lateral cell membrane ; Single-pass type I membrane protein . Cell junction, tight junction . Colocalizes with CLDN7 at the lateral cell membrane and tight junction. .

Tissue details (datasheet): Highly and selectively expressed by undifferentiated rather than differentiated embryonic stem cells (ESC). Levels rapidly diminish as soon as ESC's differentiate (at protein levels). Expressed in almost all epithelial cell membranes but not on mesodermal or neural cell membranes. Found on the surface of adenocarcinoma. .

    Research relevance and current trends

    • Commonly studied in contexts related to Cell Type Markers,Tags & Cell Markers,Tumor Associated.
    • Supports comparative expression analysis across conditions, genotypes, or treatments when paired with appropriate controls.
    • Useful for confirming target presence and subcellular distribution using orthogonal readouts (e.g., microscopy vs. immunoblotting).

    Common research applications

    • Western blot (WB): Compare relative target abundance and apparent size/isoforms across samples; interpret bands in light of expected MW and potential PTMs.
    • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Assess tissue distribution and cell-type patterns; interpret staining with appropriate negative controls and antigen context.

    Notes for experimental interpretation

    • Consider isoforms, post-translational modifications, and processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or localization.
    • Use appropriate positive and negative controls (e.g., KO/KD, blocking peptide, or isotype controls) to support specificity interpretation.

As a monoclonal antibody, this reagent is expected to recognize a defined epitope, which can support consistency across lots when epitope accessibility is preserved.

My team were content with the WB result of your anti-EpCAM/Trop1 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody. However we have observed positive staining in jejunal mucosa lateral cell membrane using this antibody. Is that expected? Could you tell me where is EPCAM supposed to be expressed?
Based on literature, jejunal mucosa does express EPCAM. Generally EPCAM expresses in lateral cell membrane. Regarding which tissues have EPCAM expression, here are a few articles citing expression in various tissues: Colon carcinoma, Pubmed ID: 2333300 Liver, Pubmed ID: 19159218 Lung adenocarcinoma, Pubmed ID: 2463074, 2469722, 2108441 Lymphoma, Pubmed ID: 8382772 Ovary, Pubmed ID: 15489334 Placenta, Pubmed ID: 2911574
I was wanting to use your anti-EpCAM/Trop1 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody for WB for human ovary on frozen tissues, but I want to know if it has been validated for this particular application. Has this antibody been validated and is this antibody a good choice for human ovary identification?
You can see on the product datasheet, M30950-2 anti-EpCAM/Trop1 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody has been validated for WB on human tissues. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in human ovary in IHC-frozen, you can get your next antibody for free.
