Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of Epgn in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Epigen/Epgn Antibody Picoband® catalog # A10011-2. Tested in ELISA, IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived mouse Epigen recombinant protein (Position: A19-K109). Mouse Epigen shares 82.8% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with human Epigen. (reported region: A19-K109).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 17 kDa; calculated MW: 16799 MW
  • Reactivity: Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: ELISA, IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Epigen. Epigen also known as epithelial mitogen is a protein that in humans is encoded by the EPGN gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the epidermal growth factor family. Members of this family are ligands for the epidermal growth factor receptor and play a role in cell survival, proliferation and migration. This protein has been reported to have high mitogenic activity but low affinity for its receptor. Expression of this transcript and protein have been reported in cancer specimens of the breast, bladder, and prostate. Functional note: Promotes the growth of epithelial cells. May stimulate the phosphorylation of EGFR and mitogen-activated protein kinases. Reported localization: Membrane ; Single-pass type I membrane protein .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Cancer: Researchers commonly examine how Epgn relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Growth Factors: Researchers commonly examine how Epgn relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Growth Factors/Hormones: Researchers commonly examine how Epgn relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative Epgn levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of Epgn across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
  • ELISA-compatible use: when applicable, interpret signal as relative abundance across sample sets with consistent handling and dilution strategy.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.

Would A10011-2 anti-Epigen/Epgn antibody work on parafin embedded sections? If so, which fixation method do you recommend we use (PFA, paraformaldehyde, other)?
It shows on the product datasheet, A10011-2 anti-Epigen/Epgn antibody as been tested on WB. It is best to use PFA for fixation because it has better tissue penetration ability. PFA needs to be prepared fresh before use. Long term stored PFA turns into formalin, as the PFA molecules congregate and become formalin.
