Product Overview

This rabbit polyclonal antibody detects fibroblast growth factor 2 (gene Fgf2) in mouse and rat samples and is validated for ELISA and Western blot.

Fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2, basic FGF) is a heparin-binding growth factor that activates FGF receptors 1–4. It is a potent mitogen that promotes cell proliferation, survival, migration and angiogenesis, and it is widely used as a supplement to maintain stem cells in culture. FGF2 is studied in development, tissue repair, angiogenesis and cancer.

Target Fibroblast growth factor 2 (gene Fgf2; UniProt P15655, mouse)
Host / Clonality / Isotype Rabbit / Polyclonal / Rabbit IgG
Reactivity Mouse, Rat
Form Lyophilized
Formulation Per vial: 4 mg trehalose; 0.9 mg NaCl; 0.2 mg Na2HPO4; 0.05 mg NaN3
Observed MW 17 kDa
Storage As supplied: −20 °C for up to 12 months from receipt. After reconstitution: 4 °C for up to 1 month, or aliquot and keep at −20 °C for up to 6 months. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.

Validated Applications

Western blot 0.1–0.5 µg/mL
ELISA 0.1–0.5 µg/mL

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): rat brain tissue, mouse brain tissue.

Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.

Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.

Immunogen

Recombinant mouse FGF2 fragment (Pro10–Ser154), expressed in E. coli.

Reactivity Notes

The supplier lists reactivity with mouse and rat. UniProt describes fibroblast growth factor 2 as secreted and also located in the nucleus. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.

Safety

Handling: the formulation contains sodium azide as a preservative. Wear gloves, avoid contact with skin and eyes, and dispose of waste according to local regulations. For research use only; not for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Q.Which applications is this antibody validated for, and at what dilution?
A.Validated applications with suggested starting dilutions: Western blot 0.1–0.5 µg/mL; ELISA 0.1–0.5 µg/mL. Optimal dilutions should be determined by each laboratory.
Q.Which species does this antibody react with?
A.Validated reactivity: Mouse, Rat. Other species are not listed by the supplier.
Q.Has this antibody been tested on canine samples?
A.Reactivity with canine samples has not been tested by the supplier. Aligning the immunogen sequence with the canine ortholog (e.g., by BLAST) helps estimate the chance of cross-reactivity.
Q.What band size should be expected in Western blot?
A.Reported by the supplier: observed band at about 17 kDa.
Q.What immunogen was used to raise this antibody?
A.Recombinant mouse FGF2 fragment (Pro10–Ser154), expressed in E. coli.
Q.How should this antibody be stored?
A.As supplied: −20 °C for up to 12 months from receipt. After reconstitution: 4 °C for up to 1 month, or aliquot and keep at −20 °C for up to 6 months. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
