Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody recognizes growth/differentiation factor 15 (gene GDF15) in human samples and is validated for ELISA and Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 34.1 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 34 kDa.
GDF15 is a distant TGF-β superfamily member that is released in response to cellular stress, inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction. It acts on the receptor GFRAL in the brainstem to reduce food intake and cause nausea. Circulating GDF15 rises in many conditions, and it is studied in metabolism, cachexia, pregnancy and cardiovascular disease.

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): 22RV cells, human placenta tissue.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 50 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:10000, ECL detection.
Immunogen
Recombinant human GDF15 fragment (Ala195–Ile308), expressed in E. coli. Sequence identity with the mouse and rat orthologs: 68.1% and 69.2%, respectively.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human. UniProt describes growth/differentiation factor 15 as a secreted protein. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Detected in plasma (at protein level). The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
