Biological background
Biological context: Broad range protease inhibitor. .
Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Secreted ..
Common research applications
- Western blotting (WB): Compare Wfdc2 levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of Wfdc2 in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
- Flow cytometry: Quantify Wfdc2-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
- ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
- Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.
Additional product notes (from provided fields)
- Specificity: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Background: WAP four-disulfide core domain protein 2, also known as Human Epididymis Protein 4 (HE4), is a protein that in humans is encoded by the WFDC2 gene. This gene encodes a protein that is a member of the WFDC domain family. The WFDC domain, or WAP Signature motif, contains eight cysteines forming four disulfide bonds at the core of the protein, and functions as a protease inhibitor in many family members. This gene is expressed in pulmonary epithelial cells, and was also found to be expressed in some ovarian cancers. The encoded protein is a small secretory protein, which may be involved in sperm maturation.
- Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Cellular localization: Secreted .
