Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of HMOX1 (Heme oxygenase 1) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Heme Oxygenase 1/HMOX1 Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9212. Tested in IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E.coli-derived human HMOX1 recombinant protein (Position: M1-M288). Human HMOX1 shares 82% and 80% amino acid (aa) sequences identity with mouse and rat HMOX1, respectively. (reported region: M1-M288).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 33 kDa; calculated MW: 32819 MW
  • Reactivity: Human
  • Applications: IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Heme oxygenase 1; Heme oxygenase 1. HMOX1 (heme oxygenase (decycling) 1), also known as HO-1, is a human gene that encodes for the enzyme heme oxygenase 1. It is an essential enzyme in heme catabolism, it cleaves heme to form biliverdin. HMOX1 belongs to the heme oxygenase family. The HMOX1 gene is located on the long (q) arm of chromosome 22 at position 12.3, from base pair 34,101,636 to base pair 34,114,748. HMOX1, an essential enzyme in heme catabolism, cleaves heme to form biliverdin, which is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase, and carbon monoxide, a putative neurotransmitter. HMOX1 activity is induced by its substrate heme and by various nonheme substances. Functional note: Heme oxygenase cleaves the heme ring at the alpha methene bridge to form biliverdin. Biliverdin is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase. Under physiological conditions, the activity of heme oxygenase is highest in the spleen, where senescent erythrocytes are sequestrated and destroyed. Exhibits cytoprotective effects since excess of free heme sensitizes cells to undergo apoptosis. Reported localization: Microsome . Endoplasmic reticulum membrane ; Peripheral membrane protein ; Cytoplasmic side . Expression/tissue context: Expressed at higher levels in renal cancer tissue than in normal tissue (at protein level). .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Atherosclerosis: Researchers commonly examine how HMOX1 (Heme oxygenase 1) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cancer: Researchers commonly examine how HMOX1 (Heme oxygenase 1) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cancer Metabolism: Researchers commonly examine how HMOX1 (Heme oxygenase 1) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative HMOX1 (Heme oxygenase 1) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of HMOX1 (Heme oxygenase 1) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
  • Family / similarity context: Belongs to the heme oxygenase family.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.

Does anti-Heme Oxygenase 1/HMOX1 antibody PB9212 work on horse WB with layer of synovial tissue?
Our lab technicians have not tested anti-Heme Oxygenase 1/HMOX1 antibody PB9212 on horse. You can run a BLAST between horse and the immunogen sequence of anti-Heme Oxygenase 1/HMOX1 antibody PB9212 to see if they may cross-react. If the sequence homology is close, then you can perform a pilot test. Keep in mind that since we have not validated horse samples, this use of the antibody is not covered by our guarantee. However we have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in horse layer of synovial tissue in WB, you can get your next antibody for free.
We have seen staining in human cervix carcinoma. What should we do? Is anti-Heme Oxygenase 1/HMOX1 antibody supposed to stain cervix carcinoma positively?
According to literature cervix carcinoma does express HMOX1. According to Uniprot.org, HMOX1 is expressed in layer of synovial tissue, foreskin, cervix carcinoma, among other tissues. Regarding which tissues have HMOX1 expression, here are a few articles citing expression in various tissues: Cervix carcinoma, Pubmed ID: 17081983, 20068231 Foreskin, Pubmed ID: 2911585
