Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of HGF (Hepatocyte growth factor) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Hepatocyte growth factor HGF Antibody catalog # RP1062. Tested in WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminus of mouse HGF, different from the related human sequence by five amino acids, and from the related rat sequence by one amino acid.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 34 kDa; calculated MW: 82945 MW
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Hepatocyte growth factor; Hepatocyte growth factor. Hepatocyte growth factor/scatter factor (HGF/SF) is a paracrine cellular growth, motility and morphogenic factor. This gene is mapped to 7q21.11. It is secreted by mesenchymal cells and targets and acts primarily uponepithelial cells and endothelial cells, but also acts on haemopoietic progenitor cells. It has been shown to have a major role in embryonic organ development, specifically in myogenesis, in adult organ regeneration and in wound healing. HGF can regulate cell growth, cell motility, and morphogenesis by activating a tyrosine kinase signaling cascade after binding to the proto-oncogenic c-Met receptor. HGF also serves as a paracrine mediator to control placental development and growth. HGF was identified as one of the liver sinusoidal endothelial cell-derived paracrine mediators promoting hepatocyte growth. Functional note: Potent mitogen for mature parenchymal hepatocyte cells, seems to be a hepatotrophic factor, and acts as a growth factor for a broad spectrum of tissues and cell types. Activating ligand for the receptor tyrosine kinase MET by binding to it and promoting its dimerization. .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Angiogenesis: Researchers commonly examine how HGF (Hepatocyte growth factor) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cancer: Researchers commonly examine how HGF (Hepatocyte growth factor) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Growth Factors/Hormones: Researchers commonly examine how HGF (Hepatocyte growth factor) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative HGF (Hepatocyte growth factor) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
  • Family / similarity context: Belongs to the peptidase S1 family. Plasminogen subfamily.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
