Product Overview

Clone 24H66 is a rabbit monoclonal antibody that recognizes neuron-specific calcium-binding protein hippocalcin (gene HPCA) in human, mouse and rat samples and is validated for Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 22.4 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 26 kDa.

Hippocalcin (HPCA) is a neuronal calcium sensor protein that is highly expressed in the hippocampus. When it binds Ca2+ it attaches to membranes through its myristoyl group and modulates channels and signaling enzymes, and it is studied in synaptic plasticity and neuronal calcium signaling. HPCA mutations cause a form of inherited dystonia.

Validated Applications

Western blot 1:500–1:2000

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): Neuro2a cells.

Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide based on the sequence of human hippocalcin.

Reactivity Notes

The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse and rat. UniProt places neuron-specific calcium-binding protein hippocalcin in the cytoplasm and membrane. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Brain specific. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.

Safety

Handling: the formulation contains sodium azide as a preservative. Wear gloves, avoid contact with skin and eyes, and dispose of waste according to local regulations. For research use only; not for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Q.Which applications is this antibody validated for, and at what dilution?
A.Validated applications with suggested starting dilutions: Western blot 1:500–1:2000. Optimal dilutions should be determined by each laboratory.
Q.Which species does this antibody react with?
A.Validated reactivity: Human, Mouse, Rat. Other species are not listed by the supplier.
Q.What band size should be expected in Western blot?
A.Reported by the supplier: calculated molecular weight 22.4 kDa; observed band at about 26 kDa. A difference from the calculated size is common and can reflect post-translational modification, processing or isoform differences.
Q.What immunogen was used to raise this antibody?
A.Synthetic peptide based on the sequence of human hippocalcin.
Q.How should this antibody be stored?
A.Long term: −20 °C for up to 12 months. Frequent use: 4 °C for up to 1 month. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
