Product Overview

Clone FEG-8 is a rabbit monoclonal antibody that recognizes porphobilinogen deaminase (gene HMBS) in human, mouse and rat samples and is validated for Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 39.3 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 42 kDa.

Porphobilinogen deaminase (HMBS, also called hydroxymethylbilane synthase) is the third enzyme of heme biosynthesis. It links four porphobilinogen units into the linear tetrapyrrole hydroxymethylbilane, building the chain on its own dipyrromethane cofactor. HMBS deficiency causes acute intermittent porphyria.

Validated Applications

Western blot 1:500–1:2000

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): HepG2 cells.

Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide based on the sequence of human HMBS.

Reactivity Notes

The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse and rat. UniProt places porphobilinogen deaminase in the cytoplasm. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Is ubiquitously expressed... The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.

Safety

Handling: the formulation contains sodium azide as a preservative. Wear gloves, avoid contact with skin and eyes, and dispose of waste according to local regulations. For research use only; not for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
