Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody recognizes 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (gene HSD17B2) in human and mouse samples and is validated for Western blot, ICC/IF, flow cytometry and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 42.8 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 37 kDa.
17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (HSD17B2) uses NAD+ to oxidize potent sex steroids such as estradiol, testosterone and dihydrotestosterone into their weaker 17-keto forms. By inactivating these hormones in tissues such as placenta, endometrium and liver, it limits local steroid action.

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): human MCF-7 cells, human RT4 cells, human HepG2 cells, human placenta tissue, mouse liver tissue tissue.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Samples with confirmed staining (ICC/IF): A431 cells.
Samples with a confirmed signal (flow cytometry): MCF-7 cells.
Immunogen
Recombinant human HSD17B2 fragment (Gln75–Arg365), expressed in E. coli. Sequence identity with the mouse and rat orthologs: 63.6% and 65.2%, respectively.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human and mouse. UniProt places 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Expressed in placenta. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
