Key elements and design rationale
- Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
- Immunogen / epitope context: E.coli-derived human HSD17B4 recombinant protein (Position: D510-L736). Human HSD17B4 shares 87.7% and 89% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with mouse and rat HSD17B4, respectively. (reported region: D510-L736).
- Molecular weight context: reported MW: 80 kDa; calculated MW: 79686 MW
- Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
- Applications: IHC, WB
As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.
Biological background
Peroxisomal multifunctional enzyme type 2; Peroxisomal multifunctional enzyme type 2. Peroxisomal multifunctional enzyme type 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the HSD17B4 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a bifunctional enzyme that is involved in the peroxisomal beta-oxidation pathway for fatty acids. It also acts as a catalyst for the formation of 3-ketoacyl-CoA intermediates from both straight-chain and 2-methyl-branched-chain fatty acids. Defects in this gene that affect the peroxisomal fatty acid beta-oxidation activity are a cause of D-bifunctional protein deficiency (DBPD). An apparent pseudogene of this gene is present on chromosome 8. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene. Functional note: Bifunctional enzyme acting on the peroxisomal beta- oxidation pathway for fatty acids. Catalyzes the formation of 3- ketoacyl-CoA intermediates from both straight-chain and 2-methyl- branched-chain fatty acids. . Reported localization: Peroxisome. Expression/tissue context: Present in many tissues with highest concentrations in liver, heart, prostate and testis.
