Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody detects pro-interleukin-16 (gene Il16) in mouse samples and is validated for ELISA, IHC and Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 141.4 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 18 kDa.
Interleukin-16 (IL-16) is a cytokine released from a larger precursor after caspase-3 cleavage and acts as a chemoattractant for CD4+ cells, including T cells, monocytes and eosinophils. It uses CD4 as a receptor, and the pro-IL-16 precursor also has intracellular roles, including in T-cell cycle control.

Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:10000, ECL detection.
Samples with confirmed staining (IHC): mouse brain tissue, rat brain tissue, rat spleen tissue.
Recommended antigen retrieval: heat-mediated, in TE buffer (pH 9.0); citrate buffer (pH 6.0) can be used instead.
Conditions in the example images (IHC): heat-mediated antigen retrieval in citrate buffer (pH 6).
Immunogen
Recombinant mouse IL-16 fragment (Ser1205–Ser1322), expressed in E. coli. Sequence identity with the human ortholog: 86.7%.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with mouse. UniProt describes pro-interleukin-16 as secreted and also located in the SUBCELLULAR LOCATION:. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (mouse): Isoform 1 is expressed in neurons of the cerebellum and hippocampus. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
