Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of IFNG (Membrane cofactor protein) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Interferon gamma IFNG Antibody Picoband® (monoclonal, 8E9) catalog # M00393-2. Tested in ELISA applications. This antibody reacts with Rat.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Mouse Monoclonal Mouse IgG1
  • Clone number: Clone: Clone: 8E9
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived rat Interferon gamma recombinant protein (Position: Q23-C156). Rat Interferon gamma shares 38% and 86% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with human and mouse Interferon gamma, respectively. (reported region: Q23-C156).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 53 kDa; calculated MW: nan
  • Reactivity: Rat
  • Applications: ELISA

As a monoclonal antibody, the reagent targets a defined epitope, supporting consistency across experiments; epitope masking by PTMs or conformational changes can affect signal.

Biological background

Membrane cofactor protein; interferon, gamma. Interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) is an inflammatory cytokine that has been implicated in the development of fibrosis in inflamed tissues. The production of IFN-gamma, which is under genetic control, can influence the development of fibrosis in lung allografts. IFN-gamma is also produced by natural killer (NK) cells and most prominently by CD8 cytotoxic T cells, and is vital for the control of microbial pathogens. Interferon gamma is believed to be crucial for host defence against many infections. Genetically determined variability in IFN-gamma and expression might be important for the development of tuberculosis. IFN-gamma activates human macrophage oxidative metabolism and antimicrobial activity. In addition to having antiviral activity, IFN-gamma has important immunoregulatory functions. IFN-gamma plays an important role in the control of neointima proliferation. Functional note: Produced by lymphocytes activated by specific antigens or mitogens. IFN-gamma, in addition to having antiviral activity, has important immunoregulatory functions. It is a potent activator of macrophages, it has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells and it can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons. Reported localization: Secreted. Expression/tissue context: Released primarily from activated T lymphocytes.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Cancer: Researchers commonly examine how IFNG (Membrane cofactor protein) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cytokines: Researchers commonly examine how IFNG (Membrane cofactor protein) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Immunology: Researchers commonly examine how IFNG (Membrane cofactor protein) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • ELISA-compatible use: when applicable, interpret signal as relative abundance across sample sets with consistent handling and dilution strategy.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
