Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody detects microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 alpha (gene MAP1LC3A) in mouse and rat samples and is validated for Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 14.3 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 18 kDa.
LC3A (MAP1LC3A) is a ubiquitin-like protein of the ATG8 family. During autophagy it is attached to phosphatidylethanolamine on the growing phagophore membrane, where it helps elongate the membrane and binds selective autophagy receptors; it is used, like LC3B, as a marker of autophagosomes.

Validated Applications
| Western blot | 0.25–0.5 µg/mL (Mouse, Rat) |
|---|
Samples with a confirmed band (WB): rat brain tissue, mouse brain tissue.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide from the N-terminal region of human MAP1LC3A. The peptide sequence is conserved in mouse and rat.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with mouse and rat. UniProt places microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 alpha in the endomembrane system and cytoplasm. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Most abundant in heart, brain, liver, skeletal muscle and testis but absent in thymus and peripheral blood leukocytes. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
