Product Overview

Clone 18M97 is a rabbit monoclonal antibody that recognizes myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2C (gene MEF2C) in human and rat samples and is validated for Western blot and IHC. The predicted molecular weight is 51.2 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 55 kDa.

MEF2C is a MADS-box transcription factor of the MEF2 family with key roles in heart, skeletal muscle, brain, bone and immune cell development. It cooperates with other factors to switch on tissue-specific gene programs and is regulated by calcium-dependent signaling and class II HDACs. MEF2C haploinsufficiency causes a neurodevelopmental disorder, and it is widely studied in development.

Validated Applications

Western blot 1:500–1:2000
Immunohistochemistry 1:50–1:200

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): human HEL cells.

Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.

Conditions in the example images (WB): 10% SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 1:500 overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide based on the sequence of human MEF2C.

Reactivity Notes

The supplier lists reactivity with human and rat. UniProt places myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2C in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Expressed in brain and skeletal muscle. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.

Safety

Handling: the formulation contains sodium azide as a preservative. Wear gloves, avoid contact with skin and eyes, and dispose of waste according to local regulations. For research use only; not for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
