Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody detects collagenase 3 (gene MMP13) in human samples and is validated for Western blot and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 53.8 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 54 kDa.
Collagenase 3 (MMP-13) is a matrix metalloproteinase that degrades fibrillar collagens, with the highest activity toward type II collagen of cartilage, and it also cleaves aggrecan and other matrix proteins. It is needed for normal bone development and is widely studied in cartilage breakdown in osteoarthritis.

Validated Applications
| Western blot | 0.25–0.5 µg/mL (Human) |
|---|---|
| ELISA | 0.1–0.5 µg/mL |
Samples with a confirmed band (WB): human A549 cells.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Immunogen
Recombinant human MMP13 fragment (Lys249–Cys471), expressed in E. coli.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human. UniProt describes collagenase 3 as a secreted protein. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Detected in fetal cartilage and calvaria, in chondrocytes of hypertrophic cartilage in vertebrae and in the dorsal end of ribs undergoing ossification, as well as in osteoblasts and periosteal cells below the inner periosteal region of ossified ribs. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
