Key elements and design rationale

  • Target: MMP3 — Stromelysin-1
  • Antibody format: Host: Rabbit; Clonality: Monoclonal; Clone: Clone: BBO-13; Isotype: Rabbit IgG
  • Species reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Molecular weight guidance: Observed: 15 kDa; Calculated: 53977 MW

Biological background

Protein function (datasheet): Can degrade fibronectin, laminin, gelatins of type I, III, IV, and V; collagens III, IV, X, and IX, and cartilage proteoglycans. Activates procollagenase.

Cellular localization (datasheet): Secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix .

Tissue details (datasheet): Isoform 1 is widely expressed, other isoforms are generally coexpressed with a more restricted distribution. Isoform 2 is expressed in skin, liver, skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, placenta, umbilical vein endothelial cells, neuroblastoma cells, lymphoma cells, hepatoma cells and astrocytoma cells. Isoform 3 and isoform 4 are expressed in muscle, kidney, liver, placenta, cervical epithelium, umbilical vein endothelial cells, fibroblast cells, embryonal kidney cells, platelets and several blood cell lines. Isoform 4, rather than isoform 3, is selectively expressed in peripheral T-cells. Isoform 3 is expressed in non- proliferating and differentiated prostate gland epithelial cells and in platelets, on the surface of erythroleukemia cells and in various hematopoietic cell lines. Isoform 5 is expressed specifically in striated muscle (skeletal and cardiac muscle). .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Commonly studied in contexts related to Angiogenesis,Atherosclerosis,Cancer,Cardiovascular,Cell Biology,Cytoskeleton/ECM,ECM Enzymes,Extracellular Matrix,Invasion/Microenvironment,Metalloprotease,Proteolysis/Ubiquitin,Proteolytic Enzymes,Signal Transduction,Tumor Biomarkers.
  • Supports comparative expression analysis across conditions, genotypes, or treatments when paired with appropriate controls.
  • Useful for confirming target presence and subcellular distribution using orthogonal readouts (e.g., microscopy vs. immunoblotting).

Common research applications

  • Western blot (WB): Compare relative target abundance and apparent size/isoforms across samples; interpret bands in light of expected MW and potential PTMs.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Assess tissue distribution and cell-type patterns; interpret staining with appropriate negative controls and antigen context.
  • Immunofluorescence / ICC: Visualize subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; consider fixation/permeabilization compatibility and controls.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Consider isoforms, post-translational modifications, and processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or localization.
  • Use appropriate positive and negative controls (e.g., KO/KD, blocking peptide, or isotype controls) to support specificity interpretation.

As a monoclonal antibody, this reagent is expected to recognize a defined epitope, which can support consistency across lots when epitope accessibility is preserved.

I see that the anti-MMP3 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody M00775 works with IHC, what is the protocol used to produce the result images on the product page?
You can find protocols for IHC on the "support/technical resources" section of our navigation menu. If you have any further questions, please send an email to support@bosterbio.com
Does anti-MMP3 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody M00775 work on goat WB with layer of synovial tissue?
Our lab technicians have not validated anti-MMP3 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody M00775 on goat. You can run a BLAST between goat and the immunogen sequence of anti-MMP3 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody M00775 to see if they may cross-react. If the sequence homology is close, then you can perform a pilot test. Keep in mind that since we have not validated goat samples, this use of the antibody is not covered by our guarantee. However we have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in goat layer of synovial tissue in WB, you can get your next antibody for free.
