Biological background

Protein function (datasheet): May play an essential role in local proteolysis of the extracellular matrix and in leukocyte migration. Could play a role in bone osteoclastic resorption. Cleaves KiSS1 at a Gly-|-Leu bond. Cleaves type IV and type V collagen into large C-terminal three quarter fragments and shorter N-terminal one quarter fragments. Degrades fibronectin but not laminin or Pz-peptide. .

Cellular localization (datasheet): Secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix .

Tissue details (datasheet): Produced by normal alveolar macrophages and granulocytes.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Commonly studied in contexts related to Angiogenesis,Atherosclerosis,Cancer,Cardiovascular,Cell Biology,Cytoskeleton/ECM,ECM Enzymes,Extracellular Matrix,Invasion/Microenvironment,Metalloprotease,Proteolysis/Ubiquitin,Proteolytic Enzymes,Signal Transduction,Tumor Biomarkers.
  • Supports comparative expression analysis across conditions, genotypes, or treatments when paired with appropriate controls.
  • Useful for confirming target presence and subcellular distribution using orthogonal readouts (e.g., microscopy vs. immunoblotting).

Common research applications

  • Western blot (WB): Compare relative target abundance and apparent size/isoforms across samples; interpret bands in light of expected MW and potential PTMs.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Assess tissue distribution and cell-type patterns; interpret staining with appropriate negative controls and antigen context.
  • Immunofluorescence / ICC: Visualize subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; consider fixation/permeabilization compatibility and controls.
  • Flow cytometry: Quantify target-positive populations in single-cell suspensions; pair with viability and isotype/FMO controls conceptually.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Consider isoforms, post-translational modifications, and processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or localization.
  • Use appropriate positive and negative controls (e.g., KO/KD, blocking peptide, or isotype controls) to support specificity interpretation.

As a monoclonal antibody, this reagent is expected to recognize a defined epitope, which can support consistency across lots when epitope accessibility is preserved.

Do you have a BSA free version of anti-MMP9 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody M00139 available?
We appreciate your recent telephone inquiry. I can confirm that some lots of this anti-MMP9 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody M00139 are BSA free. For now, these lots are available and we can make a BSA free formula for you free of charge. It will take 3 extra days to prepare. My question regarding product M00139, anti-MMP9 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody. I was wondering if it would be possible to conjugate this antibody with biotin. I would need it to be without BSA or sodium azide. I am planning on using a buffer exchange of sodium azide with PBS only. Would there be problems for me to conjugate the antibody and store it in -20 degrees in small aliquots?
We do not recommend storing this antibody with PBS buffer only in -20 degrees. If you want to store it in -20 degrees it is best to add some cryoprotectant like glycerol. If you want carrier free M00139 anti-MMP9 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody, we can provide it to you in a special formula with trehalose and/or glycerol. These molecules will not interfere with conjugation chemistry and provide a good level of protection for the antibody from degradation. Please be sure to specify this in your purchase order.
