Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody recognizes mucin-2 (gene MUC2) in human samples and is validated for IHC, ICC/IF and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 540.3 kDa.
Mucin-2 (MUC2) is the main gel-forming mucin secreted by intestinal goblet cells. Its large polymeric networks build the colonic mucus layer that separates bacteria from the epithelium while allowing nutrient uptake, and it has also been shown to bind copper. MUC2 is a standard goblet cell marker in studies of gut barrier function, colitis and the microbiome.

Samples with confirmed staining (IHC): human colon cancer tissue.
Recommended antigen retrieval: heat-mediated, in TE buffer (pH 9.0); citrate buffer (pH 6.0) can be used instead.
Conditions in the example images (IHC): heat-mediated antigen retrieval in EDTA buffer (pH 8.0).
Samples with confirmed staining (ICC/IF): human intestinal cancer tissue.

Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human. UniProt describes mucin-2 as a secreted protein. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Colon, small intestine, colonic tumors, bronchus, cervix and gall bladder.
