Overview
This antibody is intended for detection of MUC7 (Long-chain-fatty-acid--CoA ligase 5) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.
Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-MUC7 Antibody Picoband® catalog # A05210. Tested in WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.
Key elements and design rationale
- Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
- Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminus of human MUC7.
- Molecular weight context: reported MW: 46 kDa; calculated MW: 39411 MW
- Reactivity: Human
- Applications: WB
As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.
Biological background
Long-chain-fatty-acid--CoA ligase 5; mucin 7, secreted. Mucin-7 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MUC7 gene. This gene encodes a small salivary mucin, which is thought to play a role in facilitating the clearance of bacteria in the oral cavity and to aid in mastication, speech, and swallowing. The central domain of this glycoprotein contains tandem repeats, each composed of 23 amino acids. This antimicrobial protein has antibacterial and antifungal activity. The most common allele contains 6 repeats, and some alleles may be associated with susceptibility to asthma. Alternatively spliced transcript variants with different 5' UTR, but encoding the same protein, have been found for this gene. Functional note: May function in a protective capacity by promoting the clearance of bacteria in the oral cavity and aiding in mastication, speech, and swallowing. Binds P.aeruginosa pili. Reported localization: Secreted. Expression/tissue context: Expressed in salivary gland tissues and only in those that contain mucous acinar cells (e.g. sublingual and submandibular glands) and not in salivary glands containing only serous acinar cells (e.g. parotid gland).

Common research applications
- Western blotting: compare relative MUC7 (Long-chain-fatty-acid--CoA ligase 5) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
- Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
