Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody detects optic atrophy 3 protein (gene OPA3) in human samples and is validated for Western blot, flow cytometry and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 20.0 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 20 kDa.
OPA3 is a mitochondrial protein thought to be involved in mitochondrial structure and dynamics, although its exact function is unclear. OPA3 mutations cause type III 3-methylglutaconic aciduria (Costeff syndrome) and a form of autosomal dominant optic atrophy with cataract.

Validated Applications
| Western blot | 0.25–0.5 µg/mL (Human) |
|---|---|
| Flow cytometry (fixed cells) | 1–3 µg/1×106 cells (Human) |
| ELISA | 0.1–0.5 µg/mL |
Samples with a confirmed band (WB): human 293T cells, human A549 cells.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Samples with a confirmed signal (flow cytometry): U937 cells.
Immunogen
Recombinant human OPA3 fragment (Met1–Lys179), expressed in E. coli.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human. UniProt places optic atrophy 3 protein in the mitochondrion. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Ubiquitous. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
