Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of TP73 (Tumor protein p73) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-p73/TP73 Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9235. Tested in IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E.coli-derived human p73 recombinant protein (Position: M1-E198). Human p73 shares 96% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with mouse p73. (reported region: M1-E198).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 73 kDa; calculated MW: 69623 MW
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Tumor protein p73; Tumor protein p73. p73, also known as tumor protein 73 (TP73), encodes a member of the p53 family of transcription factors involved in cellular responses to stress and development. It is mapped to a region on chromosome 1p36 that is frequently deleted in neuroblastoma and other tumors, and thought to contain multiple tumor suppressor genes. The demonstration that this gene is monoallelically expressed (likely from the maternal allele), supports the notion that it is a candidate gene for neuroblastoma. Furthermore, recent finding are suggesting that over-expression of transcription factors involved in cell cycle regulation and synthesis of DNA in mammalian cells (e.g.: E2F-1) induces the expression of p73. In addition, p73 is a substrate of the c-Abl kinase and that the ability of c-Abl to phosphorylate p73 is markedly increased by gamma-irradiation. Functional note: Participates in the apoptotic response to DNA damage. Isoforms containing the transactivation domain are pro-apoptotic, isoforms lacking the domain are anti-apoptotic and block the function of p53 and transactivating p73 isoforms. May be a tumor suppressor protein. . Reported localization: Nucleus . Cytoplasm. Accumulates in the nucleus in response to DNA damage. Expression/tissue context: Expressed in striatal neurons of patients with Huntington disease (at protein level). Brain, kidney, placenta, colon, heart, liver, spleen, skeletal muscle, prostate, thymus and pancreas. Highly expressed in fetal tissue. .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Apoptosis: Researchers commonly examine how TP73 (Tumor protein p73) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • p53 Pathway: Researchers commonly examine how TP73 (Tumor protein p73) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative TP73 (Tumor protein p73) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of TP73 (Tumor protein p73) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
  • Family / similarity context: Belongs to the p53 family.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
