Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 2 (PDK2) is a widely expressed mitochondrial kinase that inactivates the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex by phosphorylating its E1α subunit. By limiting glucose oxidation and favoring fat use, it helps adjust fuel choice to nutrient and insulin status, and it is studied in metabolic disease and cancer metabolism.

Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Expressed in many tissues, with the highest level in heart and skeletal muscle, intermediate levels in brain, kidney, pancreas and liver, and low levels in placenta and lung.
