Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of Pyy (Peptide YY) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Peptide YY/PYY Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB10014. Tested in IF, IHC applications. This antibody reacts with Mouse, Rat.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence in the middle region of mouse Peptide YY, different from the related human sequence by three amino acids, and identical to the related rat sequence.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 19 kDa; calculated MW: 11064 MW
  • Reactivity: Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: IF, IHC

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Peptide YY; Peptide YY. Peptide YY (PYY), also known as peptide tyrosine tyrosine, is a peptide that in humans is encoded by the PYY gene. This gene encodes a member of the neuropeptide Y (NPY) family of peptides. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate two alternative peptide products that differ in length by three amino acids. These peptides, secreted by endocrine cells in the gut, exhibit different binding affinities for each of the neuropeptide Y receptors. Binding of the encoded peptides to these receptors mediates regulation of pancreatic secretion, gut mobility and energy homeostasis. Rare variations in this gene could increase susceptibility to obesity and elevated serum levels of the encoded peptides may be associated with anorexia nervosa.

Functional note: This gut peptide inhibits exocrine pancreatic secretion, has a vasoconstrictory action and inhibitis jejunal and colonic mobility. Reported localization: Secreted. Expression/tissue context: Highly expressed in heart, placenta, pancreas, lung and liver and weakly expressed in spleen, lymph nodes and thymus. .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Golgi Proteins: Researchers commonly examine how Pyy (Peptide YY) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Protein Trafficking: Researchers commonly examine how Pyy (Peptide YY) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Signal Transduction: Researchers commonly examine how Pyy (Peptide YY) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of Pyy (Peptide YY) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
  • IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
  • Family / similarity context: Belongs to the transient receptor (TC 1.A.4) family. STrpC subfamily. TRPC4 sub-subfamily.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
