Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of PYY (Transforming acidic coiled-coil-containing protein 1) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Peptide YY/PYY Antibody Picoband® catalog # A04223-1. Tested in IHC applications. This antibody reacts with Human.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence in the middle region of human Peptide YY/PYY, which shares 91.7% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with both mouse and rat Peptide YY/PYY.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 39 kDa; calculated MW: 87794 MW
  • Reactivity: Human
  • Applications: IHC

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Transforming acidic coiled-coil-containing protein 1; peptide YY. Peptide YY (PYY), also known as peptide tyrosine tyrosine, is a peptide that in humans is encoded by the PYY gene. This gene encodes a member of the neuropeptide Y (NPY) family of peptides. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate two alternative peptide products that differ in length by three amino acids. These peptides, secreted by endocrine cells in the gut, exhibit different binding affinities for each of the neuropeptide Y receptors. Binding of the encoded peptides to these receptors mediates regulation of pancreatic secretion, gut mobility and energy homeostasis. Rare variations in this gene could increase susceptibility to obesity and elevated serum levels of the encoded peptides may be associated with anorexia nervosa.

Functional note: This gut peptide inhibits exocrine pancreatic secretion, has a vasoconstrictory action and inhibitis jejunal and colonic mobility. Reported localization: Secreted. Expression/tissue context: Isoform 1, isoform 3 and isoform 5 are ubiquitous. Isoform 2 is strongly expressed in the brain, weakly detectable in lung and colon, and overexpressed in gastric cancer. Isoform 4 is not detected in normal tissues, but strong expression was found in gastric cancer tissues. Down-regulated in a subset of cases of breast cancer. .
