Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of Ttr (Transthyretin) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Prealbumin/TTR Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9750. Tested in IF, IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E.coli-derived rat Prealbumin recombinant protein (Position: G21-N147). Rat Prealbumin shares 94.5% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with mouse Prealbumin. (reported region: G21-N147).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 16 kDa; calculated MW: 15720 MW
  • Reactivity: Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: IF, IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Transthyretin; Transthyretin. Transthyretin (TTR) is also known as prealbumin. It is mapped to chromosome region 18q11.2-q12.1. This gene encodes a carrier protein responsible for the transport of thyroid hormones and retinol. The protein consists of a tetramer of identical subunits. Due to increased stability of the tetramer form of this encoded protein in mouse, compared to the human protein, this gene product has a reduced tendency to form amyloid fibrils. In humans, this protein binds beta-amyloid preventing its aggregation and providing a neuroprotective role in Alzheimer's disease. Functional note: Thyroid hormone-binding protein. Probably transports thyroxine from the bloodstream to the brain. . Reported localization: Secreted . Expression/tissue context: Detected in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (at protein level). Highly expressed in the choroid plexus. Detected at lower levels in the liver. .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Alzheimer's Disease: Researchers commonly examine how Ttr (Transthyretin) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cardiovascular: Researchers commonly examine how Ttr (Transthyretin) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Neurodegenerative Disease: Researchers commonly examine how Ttr (Transthyretin) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative Ttr (Transthyretin) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of Ttr (Transthyretin) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
  • IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
