Product Overview

This rabbit polyclonal antibody recognizes prolactin (gene Prl) in mouse samples and is validated for ELISA and Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 25.5 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 10 kDa.

Prolactin (PRL) is a peptide hormone secreted mainly by lactotroph cells of the anterior pituitary. Its best-known role is stimulating mammary gland development and milk production, but it also influences reproduction, metabolism and immune function, and serum prolactin is routinely measured in endocrinology research.

Host / Clonality / Isotype Rabbit / Polyclonal / Rabbit IgG
Reactivity Mouse
Form Lyophilized
Formulation Per vial: 0.9 mg NaCl; 0.2 mg Na2HPO4; 0.05 mg NaN3; plus stabilizers
Calculated MW 25.5 kDa
Observed MW 10 kDa
Storage As supplied: −20 °C for up to 12 months from receipt. After reconstitution: 4 °C for up to 1 month, or aliquot and keep at −20 °C for up to 6 months. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.

Validated Applications

Western blot 0.1–0.5 µg/mL (Mouse)
ELISA 0.1–0.5 µg/mL

Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.

Immunogen

Recombinant mouse Prolactin fragment (Leu30–Cys226), expressed in E. coli. Sequence identity with the human and rat orthologs: 59.8% and 84.8%, respectively.

Reactivity Notes

The supplier lists reactivity with mouse. UniProt describes prolactin as a secreted protein.

Safety

Handling: the formulation contains sodium azide as a preservative. Wear gloves, avoid contact with skin and eyes, and dispose of waste according to local regulations. For research use only; not for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Q.Which applications is this antibody validated for, and at what dilution?
A.Validated applications with suggested starting dilutions: Western blot 0.1–0.5 µg/mL (Mouse); ELISA 0.1–0.5 µg/mL. Optimal dilutions should be determined by each laboratory.
Q.Which species does this antibody react with?
A.Validated reactivity: Mouse. Other species are not listed by the supplier.
Q.What band size should be expected in Western blot?
A.Reported by the supplier: calculated molecular weight 25.5 kDa; observed band at about 10 kDa. The observed band is much smaller than the calculated size, which can indicate a processed form or a shorter isoform; check the supplier images.
Q.What immunogen was used to raise this antibody?
A.Recombinant mouse Prolactin fragment (Leu30–Cys226), expressed in E. coli. Sequence identity with the human and rat orthologs: 59.8% and 84.8%, respectively.
Q.How should this antibody be stored?
A.As supplied: −20 °C for up to 12 months from receipt. After reconstitution: 4 °C for up to 1 month, or aliquot and keep at −20 °C for up to 6 months. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
