Product Overview
Anti-PRRSV GP2 Polyclonal Antibody is an affinity-purified rabbit polyclonal antibody raised against the GP2 (GP2a) minor envelope glycoprotein of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus 2 (PRRSV2), encoded by ORF2. It is supplied unconjugated in liquid form and is validated by the manufacturer for ELISA, immunohistochemistry and Western blot.
PRRSV is an enveloped, positive-sense single-stranded RNA arterivirus and one of the most economically significant swine pathogens worldwide. Its minor envelope glycoproteins GP2, GP3 and GP4 assemble into a heterotrimeric complex that engages the macrophage receptor CD163 during entry, which makes GP2 a recurring subject of entry-mechanism, receptor-binding, seroprevalence and vaccine-antigen studies.
Validated Applications
| Application | Recommended dilution |
|---|---|
| ELISA | 1:5,000 – 1:20,000 |
| Immunohistochemistry (IHC) | 1:50 – 1:500 |
| Western blot (WB) | 1:500 – 1:2,000 |
Dilutions are manufacturer starting points. Titrate for each sample type, fixation method and detection system, and include a known positive antigen alongside a target-negative control.

Immunogen & Antigen
The antiserum was raised against an E. coli-derived recombinant PRRSV GP2 fragment spanning Ser41–Ser216 and then purified on an antigen affinity column, so the antibody pool is enriched for antibodies recognising that region of GP2.
Manufacturer Western blot data show a single reactive band against 100 ng of recombinant GP2 antigen. Because the immunogen is a bacterially expressed fragment, the observed size reflects the recombinant antigen rather than full-length, natively glycosylated GP2 — expect a different apparent molecular weight when probing infected-cell lysates or virions.
Reactivity Notes
Manufacturer-stated reactivity is limited to PRRSV2 (the North American genotype). Cross-reactivity with PRRSV-1 (European genotype) isolates, with other arteriviruses, or with uninfected porcine tissue is not claimed and should be verified in-house before use in a comparative study.
Epitopes presented by a non-glycosylated bacterial fragment may be partially masked on native, heavily glycosylated GP2. Where staining or blotting signal is weak, compare reducing and non-reducing conditions and consider an antigen-retrieval optimisation series for IHC.
Safety & Handling
The formulation contains 0.05% Proclin 300, a preservative that is harmful on contact — handle with gloves and avoid skin and eye exposure. The 50% glycerol content means the product does not freeze solid at -20 °C; aliquot before long-term storage and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
