Product Overview
Clone AFAE-16 is a rabbit monoclonal antibody that recognizes proteasome subunit alpha type-1 (gene PSMA1) in human, mouse and rat samples and is validated for Western blot, IHC, ICC/IF, immunoprecipitation and flow cytometry. The predicted molecular weight is 29.6 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 30 kDa.
PSMA1 (α6) is one of the seven α subunits that form the outer rings of the 20S core proteasome. The α rings control entry of substrates into the proteolytic chamber and dock regulatory particles such as the 19S cap, and PSMA1 is used as a marker of proteasome abundance in protein degradation research.

Immunogen
Synthetic peptide based on the sequence of human proteasome 20S C2 The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex which is characterized by its ability to cleave peptides with Arg, Phe, Tyr, Leu, and Glu adjacent to the leaving group at neutral or slightly basic pH. The proteasome has an ATP-dependent proteolytic activity.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse and rat. UniProt places proteasome subunit alpha type-1 in the cytoplasm and nucleus. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
