| Immunogen | A synthesized peptide derived from human SAE2 / UBA2 The heterodimer acts as a E1 ligase for SUMO1, SUMO2, SUMO3, and probably SUMO4. It mediates ATP-dependent activation of SUMO proteins followed by formation of a thioester bond between a SUMO protein and a conserved active site cysteine residue on UBA2/SAE2. |

Product Overview
Clone AEAI-21 is a rabbit monoclonal antibody that recognizes SUMO-activating enzyme subunit 2 (gene UBA2) in human, mouse and rat samples and is validated for Western blot, IHC, ICC/IF and immunoprecipitation. The predicted molecular weight is 71.2 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 90 kDa.
UBA2 (SAE2) is the catalytic subunit of the heterodimeric E1 enzyme for SUMO proteins, formed with SAE1. It activates SUMO1, SUMO2 and SUMO3 with ATP, forms a thioester bond with them and passes them to the E2 enzyme UBC9, initiating sumoylation, which regulates nuclear transport, transcription and DNA repair.

Immunogen
Synthetic peptide based on the sequence of human SAE2 / UBA2 The heterodimer acts as a E1 ligase for SUMO1, SUMO2, SUMO3, and probably SUMO4.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse and rat. UniProt places SUMO-activating enzyme subunit 2 in the cytoplasm and nucleus. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
