Organic cation transporter 1 (OCT1, SLC22A1) is a polyspecific uniporter found mainly on the sinusoidal membrane of hepatocytes. It moves many endogenous amines and cationic drugs, including metformin, into liver cells, so it is an important subject in drug uptake and pharmacogenetics studies.
