Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody recognizes sodium-coupled monocarboxylate transporter 1 (gene SLC5A8) in human and mouse samples and is validated for Western blot, flow cytometry and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 66.6 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 67 kDa.
SMCT1 (SLC5A8) is a sodium-coupled transporter for monocarboxylates such as lactate, pyruvate, butyrate and other short-chain fatty acids, as well as ketone bodies and some drugs. It is expressed in colon, kidney, thyroid and brain, and has been studied as a candidate tumor suppressor in several cancer cell types.

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): mouse kidney tissue.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Samples with a confirmed signal (flow cytometry): 293T cells.

Recombinant human SLC5A8 fragment (Ala313–Asn598), expressed in E. coli.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human and mouse. UniProt places sodium-coupled monocarboxylate transporter 1 in the apical cell membrane. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Expressed in normal thyroid, localized at the apical pole of thyroid cells facing the colloid lumen, but expression profoundly decreased in thyroid carcinomas. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
