Biological background

Protein function (datasheet): Transcriptional activator. May function as a switch in neuronal development. Keeps neural cells undifferentiated by counteracting the activity of proneural proteins and suppresses neuronal differentiation (By similarity). .

Cellular localization (datasheet): Nucleus .

Tissue details (datasheet): Mainly expressed in the developing central nervous system.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Commonly studied in contexts related to Developmental Families,Domain Families,Epigenetics and Nuclear Signaling,Intracellular,Neural Stem Cells,Neurogenesis,Neurology Process,Neuroscience,Stem Cells,Transcription.
  • Supports comparative expression analysis across conditions, genotypes, or treatments when paired with appropriate controls.
  • Useful for confirming target presence and subcellular distribution using orthogonal readouts (e.g., microscopy vs. immunoblotting).

Common research applications

  • Western blot (WB): Compare relative target abundance and apparent size/isoforms across samples; interpret bands in light of expected MW and potential PTMs.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Assess tissue distribution and cell-type patterns; interpret staining with appropriate negative controls and antigen context.
  • Immunofluorescence / ICC: Visualize subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; consider fixation/permeabilization compatibility and controls.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Consider isoforms, post-translational modifications, and processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or localization.
  • Use appropriate positive and negative controls (e.g., KO/KD, blocking peptide, or isotype controls) to support specificity interpretation.

As a monoclonal antibody, this reagent is expected to recognize a defined epitope, which can support consistency across lots when epitope accessibility is preserved.

Would M08724 anti-SOX1 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody work on parafin embedded sections? If so, which fixation method do you recommend we use (PFA, paraformaldehyde, other)?
You can see on the product datasheet, M08724 anti-SOX1 Rabbit Monoclonal antibody as been tested on IF. It is best to use PFA for fixation because it has better tissue penetration ability. PFA needs to be prepared fresh before use. Long term stored PFA turns into formalin, as the PFA molecules congregate and become formalin.
