Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of CD81 in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-TAPA1/CD81 Antibody Picoband® catalog # A01281-2. Tested in ELISA, Flow Cytometry, IHC, IHC-F, ICC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived human TAPA1 recombinant protein (Position: F113-K201). (reported region: F113-K201).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 22 kDa; calculated MW: nan
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: ELISA, Flow Cytometry, IHC, IHC-F, ICC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

CD81 molecule. CD81 molecule, also known as CD81 (Cluster of Differentiation 81), is a protein which in humans is encoded by the CD81 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. Most of these members are cell-surface proteins that are characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth and motility. This encoded protein is a cell surface glycoprotein that is known to complex with integrins. This protein appears to promote muscle cell fusion and support myotube maintenance. Also it may be involved in signal transduction. This gene is localized in the tumor-suppressor gene region and thus it is a candidate gene for malignancies. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Functional note: May play an important role in the regulation of lymphoma cell growth. Interacts with a 16-kDa Leu-13 protein to form a complex possibly involved in signal transduction. May act as the viral receptor for HCV. Reported localization: Basolateral cell membrane. Expression/tissue context: Hematolymphoid, neuroectodermal and mesenchymal tumor cell lines.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Adaptive Immunity: Researchers commonly examine how CD81 relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • B Cells: Researchers commonly examine how CD81 relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Host-Virus Interaction: Researchers commonly examine how CD81 relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative CD81 levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of CD81 across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
  • IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.
  • Flow cytometry: quantify target-positive populations and shifts in expression; gating strategy and background staining controls are essential.
  • ELISA-compatible use: when applicable, interpret signal as relative abundance across sample sets with consistent handling and dilution strategy.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.

I was wanting to use your anti-TAPA1/CD81 antibody for IHC-F for rat brain on frozen tissues, but I want to know if it has been validated for this particular application. Has this antibody been validated and is this antibody a good choice for rat brain identification?
As indicated on the product datasheet, A01281-2 anti-TAPA1/CD81 antibody has been tested for ELISA, Flow Cytometry, IHC-P, IHC-F, ICC, WB on human, mouse, rat tissues. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in rat brain in IHC-frozen, you can get your next antibody for free.
We are currently using anti-TAPA1/CD81 antibody A01281-2 for rat tissue, and we are happy with the IHC-P results. The species of reactivity given in the datasheet says human, mouse, rat. Is it true that the antibody can work on goat tissues as well?
The anti-TAPA1/CD81 antibody (A01281-2) has not been tested for cross reactivity specifically with goat tissues, though there is a good chance of cross reactivity. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in goat you can get your next antibody for free. Please contact me if I can help you with anything.
