Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of VAPB in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-VAPB Antibody Picoband® catalog # A01372. Tested in ELISA, Flow Cytometry, IF, IHC, ICC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived human VAPB recombinant protein (Position: A2-R55). Human VAPB shares 98.1% and 100% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with mouse and rat VAPB, respectively. (reported region: A2-R55).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 27 kDa; calculated MW: nan
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse
  • Applications: ELISA, Flow Cytometry, IF, IHC, ICC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

VAMP associated protein B and C. Vesicle-associated membrane protein-associated protein B/C is a protein that in humans is encoded by the VAPB gene. The VAPB gene is found on the 20th human chromosome. The protein encoded by this gene is a type IV membrane protein found in plasma and intracellular vesicle membranes. The encoded protein is found as a homodimer and as a heterodimer with VAPA. This protein also can interact with VAMP1 and VAMP2 and may be involved in vesicle trafficking. Functional note: Participates in the endoplasmic reticulum unfolded protein response (UPR) by inducing ERN1/IRE1 activity. Involved in cellular calcium homeostasis regulation. Reported localization: Endoplasmic reticulum membrane ; Present in mitochondria-associated membranes that are endoplasmic reticulum membrane regions closely apposed to the outer mitochondrial membrane. Expression/tissue context: Ubiquitous. Isoform 1 predominates.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Cancer: Researchers commonly examine how VAPB relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cancer Metabolism: Researchers commonly examine how VAPB relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Lipid and Lipoprotein Metabolism: Researchers commonly examine how VAPB relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative VAPB levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of VAPB across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
  • IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.
  • Flow cytometry: quantify target-positive populations and shifts in expression; gating strategy and background staining controls are essential.
  • ELISA-compatible use: when applicable, interpret signal as relative abundance across sample sets with consistent handling and dilution strategy.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
