Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of VTN (Vitronectin) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Vitronectin/VTN Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9458. Tested in IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminus of human Vitronectin, different from the related mouse sequence by two amino acids.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 65-70 kDa; calculated MW: 54306 MW
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Vitronectin; Vitronectin. Vitronectin, also known as VTN, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the VTN gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the pexin family. It is found in serum and tissues and promotes cell adhesion and spreading, inhibits the membrane-damaging effect of the terminal cytolytic complement pathway, and binds to several serpin serine protease inhibitors. It is a secreted protein and exists in either a single chain form or a clipped, two chain form held together by a disulfide bond. Also vitronectin serves to regulate proteolysis initiated by plasminogen activation. In addition, vitronectin is a component of platelets and is, thus, involved in hemostasis. Functional note: Vitronectin is a cell adhesion and spreading factor found in serum and tissues. Vitronectin interact with glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans. Is recognized by certain members of the integrin family and serves as a cell-to-substrate adhesion molecule. Inhibitor of the membrane-damaging effect of the terminal cytolytic complement pathway. Reported localization: Secreted, extracellular space. Expression/tissue context: Plasma.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Actin Binding Proteins: Researchers commonly examine how VTN (Vitronectin) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

  • etc.: Researchers commonly examine how VTN (Vitronectin) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative VTN (Vitronectin) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of VTN (Vitronectin) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
  • Family / similarity context: Contains 4 hemopexin repeats.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
