Compound Overview

BSB, also known as (trans,trans)-1-Bromo-2,5-bis-(3-hydroxycarbonyl-4-hydroxy)styrylbenzene, is a Congo red-derived fluorescent probe. It binds not only to extracellular amyloid β protein but also to many intracellular lesions composed of abnormal tau and synuclein proteins, and it acts as a prototype imaging agent for Alzheimer's disease[1]. It is supplied as a light yellow to yellow solid (C24H17BrO6, MW 481.29) at 97.24% purity.

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and not for human or veterinary use. Handle in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet and your institution's chemical hygiene plan.

In Vitro

SolventSolubilityNotes
DMSO100 mg/mL (207.77 mM)requires sonication and warming and heat to 60°C; use freshly opened DMSO (absorbed moisture lowers solubility)

Aliquot the stock solution and store it at -80°C (up to 6 months) or -20°C (up to 1 month); protect from light; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
