Compound Overview

Butriptyline, also known as Butriptylene, is an orally active tricyclic antidepressant that slightly enhances central 5-HT effects. It does not inhibit brain norepinephrine uptake and can be used for depression research[1][2][3]. It has the molecular formula C21H27N (MW 293.45).

Safety

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, and not for human or veterinary use. Handle in accordance with your institution's chemical hygiene plan.

In Vivo

Mice show an anti-obesity effect with Butriptyline (1000 mg/kg; in diet; 10 weeks)[1]. In male albino rats, dose-dependent depression of food reinforced responses is caused by Butriptyline hydrochloride (2.5-30 mg/kg; i.p.; 10-15 day intervals), along with slight depression of the avoidance reflex at the highest doses[2].

Animal ModelFemale CFLP mice, monosodium glutamate (MSG)-induced obesity model[1]
Dosage1000 mg/kg
AdministrationIn diet, 10 weeks
ResultSignificantly lowered the body weight.
